Open Showers

Gotta love German lads. Just returned from my very corporate gym. Lads usually wear shirts or towels in the sauna. Never any nudity.
In comes two young (20 something) German lads with slim/average bodies, lay down their towel and sit buck naked. Right there with three or four young lads all covered up. I could see everyone checking out these lads while they sat there without a care in the world.

That was me

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I have no issue with their showering method just talked about them showering with clothes on. Swim trunks are not shower attire, last time I checked. Therefore, not sure how or why you thought I was questioning someone showering method!

By the way, I am not bothered by it at all as I have never showered with any clothes on, have you?
You responded to my question very well. Like a perfectly trained politician.

I understood what you originally wrote quite clearly. And read between the lines too….

I think you did not see my very 1st post in this entire thread which led you to thinking that I responded "like a perfectly trained politician". Again, my point is proven that people react to only snippets of what they hear and read and will heave negative comments when they do not align with their views. No where did I say they should not be allowed to shower with their swim trunks on, I just commented (my opinion only for which I am entitled to) that it was weird to me.

Again, this thread was about open communal showers and changes to stalls in locker rooms because of the few people who object to seeing nudity in the locker room, showers, sauna and steam rooms. Having an opinion should not garner comments of naming calling because one does not agree. A simple, "I disagree because ........" would have been sufficient and respected without me lodging anmes at you because I may disagree with your opinion. We can remain friends with very different views! This is how you learn because of different perspectives!

I’m not a huge fan of using a cramped stall simply from the stance of overall cleanliness. Hit the showers at a busy time when cleaning staff can’t easily do what needs to be done…brushing against the wall or seeing what is hanging out on the wall or curtain grosses me out. Maybe it’s flashbacks to poor cleaning practices at camp or in school growing up.
But even then most of us used the open showers, Bradley pools, or split head wall mounted showers.

My team locker rooms and shower facilities were excellent without being over the top. the football (American) team facilities were spacious, comfortable, well maintained and most importantly the water pressure was just right; non of the over pressurized highly aerated business that peels skin and never feels warm.

The lacrosse facility was smaller but that was expected. Thanks to generous donors it was better appointed. more than half of the shower heads were detachable wands with adjustable spray nozzles.

both also had multiple hot or cold recovery baths.

Male and female PT staff were always professional and respectful (as they should be) and appeared to have no issues with player nudity. to be fair most PT treatments in that space had the player more covered as approriate.

I’ll just be blunt with you. Your initial posting had a light layer of cringe, because what I got from it was this:

You’re irritated that those guys wouldn’t shower butterball naked, because you can’t get to peek and oogle at their dicks and asses.

Here’s the truth: The locker room & showers will have nudity. Most people don’t like the idea of someone peeking at their goods in these environments. We all know that some people get their jollies looking at others’ goods. It’s not up to you or anyone else to “demand” that they shower in a way to give you the viewing pleasures you desire.

So if someone wants to shower in their shorts, leave them alone.

If someone wants to shower in a stall, leave them alone.

If someone wants to change their clothes and cover their private parts with a towel, leave them alone.

This is a perfect example of ones perspective that is far from the truth. First of all your perspective of "light layer of cringe" and saying that I was "irritated" is so far off from what I was expressing. I only mentioned that is was weird to "me" that one showers in clothes. In no way was there an indication that I wanted to take a peek, again your perspective. I agree there are those that do partake in being in those environments to peek but I am not one of those as you have suggested, again your persepctive. If I were irritated I would have asked them directly why they shower with clothes on but their choice to remain clothed is their right and choice. Again, my perspective was not placed on them to do anything differently.

While I respect your perspective, your characterization of my perspective is far off from the truth. You too are entitled to your perspective but at least be truthful when describing your conclusions about someone elses views.

Open showers is becoming a thing of the past .. and that sucks.. not for the main reason you can see all kinds of guys naked .. showering .. big dicks small dicks smooth asses hairy asses ..

But for the fact that it seems like men are becoming ashamed of their bodies and won’t let anyone see them naked.

A friend of min been married 6 years and he and his wife have sex all the time.. but all this time they have never seen each other naked.. not even in showers .. as he has this thing about someone seeing him naked ..

I think it’s “body shaming” over the years has made a lot of men and women ashamed of their bodies

I'm guessing most of the men here are gay/bi. How do you bond with straight men when most of them are homophobic and many would get violent with us in hypermasculinized situations like locker rooms and showers? The abuse I was forced to stomach for being gay in middle/high school left with with PTSD that I still live with well into adulthood. If mandatory showers had been a thing when I was in school the abuse and violence likely would have been even worse. I would have been totally exposed and vulnerable in front of my bullies which would give them even more ammo than they already had. This is why sometimes I think these stories that are supposedly by gay men talking about having male bonding experiences in open showers with other men are just fictional fantasies. Being from the US aka one of the most anti-LGBTQ countries on earth, the idea of a known homosexual showering naked in the same room as heterosexual man without being hate crimed doesn't compute.

Sorry that you had such a horrible experience in your youth. But life is very different today and life is very different in other parts of the country. Raising children myself (bisexual man) and a daughter who is probably gay, I find that kids today are unbelievably tolerant of gay/straight/bi. I would say that extends even to people in their 20s and 30s who have grown up with a different tolerance and understanding. I work out at gyms in Michigan and in New York and straight men comfortably shower and sauna and steam with gay men and it's just a shoulder shrug and part of life now. So maybe it depends on your environment and it certainly depends on your age. I too lived through an era where even masturbation as a child was considered gay and now that's pretty laughable. With respect to violence, that is hard for me to comprehend as I've never heard or witnessed that in my life but I would be naive to claim that it doesn't exist. That's horribly sad. I apologize on behalf of humanity.

I live in an area that is fortunate to have two ymca's. The sparkling new one and the old one which they kept around because it still has a great pool. And it's funny, the younger generations mostly use the new one with shower cubicles and lots of privacy and the older generations like myself all gravitate to the old school gym and it's open gang showers. There is an unbelievable comfort with nudity and showering in front of other people and it's not sexualized at all. It's just about fraternity.

There are a number of younger folks there as well and because they are following suit, as they say, they are comfortable striding across the locker room with a towel over their shoulder. Absolutely no one showers in their bathing suit or shorts and everybody is on an even level and naked in a small locker room and a open shower with about eight heads.

Quite honestly it's the way it should be. There's not a lot of beautiful bodies, there's a lot of dad bods and washed up old men and it's just cool that it doesn't matter if we've got rain gutters, dumpy butts, and a shriveled cock from the pool. We are just "as is".

Why can't there be a hybrid locker room with four cubicles for privacy and just as many open shower heads for those of us who don't care? Not sure why it has to be one or the other necessarily? Certainly some people want privacy and we should respect that but then there's many of us who love to just let it fly and feel the joy of being unashamed.

I grew up in the days when you were not "out". There were some guys we were all pretty sure were bi/gay but it was not addressed. In the locker room they were just like everyone else - you did gym - took your shower and went to class. Sure there were jokes about dropping the soap - but the gay guys made just as many jokes as the straight guys.

I don't know if we would have been treated differently if they had come out - but for us it was just not talked about.

Makes sense to me

Actually nudity is the great equalizer. The "bullies" are not quite so bullying without their clothes. They may be overcompensating for something.

After spending a lot of time in Europe where nudity is not an issue the gay segment of the population is quite accustomed to being naked with the "straight" population. There is no delineation.

I totally agree with this. When everyone is nude in the showers it is a great leveler - we all are the same in a significant way (despite differences in things like size and hair growth). No one got bullied in the showers when I was in high school.

I'm in my late 20s and grew up seeing gay kids bullied. It still does happen just from talking with younger family members who say gay kids get bullied, sometimes physically, but sometimes it's online bullying. F.ag is still used a lot. I've never seen the locker room be the great equalizer as even though some of those bullying weren't well-endowed, they still acted confident from being in shape and popular. I remember a gay kid who had a decent size and still was bullied and was told it was a waste him having that as it will never be used properly. Another had a pronunciation issue and some guys would say I don't understand you, take the dick out of your mouth.

I wasn't a bully, but was friends with some of them and even though I'd tell my friends chill with that, they still did it, and unfortunately I didn't always speak up. So when I read how most guys think gays being bullied are largely a thing of the past, it's not. Just like some parents who don't have any issues with gay people, until it's their own kid who is gay. I've seen that happen just from a guy I know who told his parents he is bi.

I grew up around a lot of communal showers but managed to avoid most of them. I was too afraid to take showers with other naked guys. I knew I'd get hard as steel being around other naked dudes and I live in a conservative area, so I might have gotten my ass beat lol
