It is surprising to me as well too. If I had to give frequency, I produce precum all the time but in 8 or 9 times out of 10 it's just a few drops and I honestly can't find a distinct sensation associated to that level of production other than feeling some degree of wetness more so if I'm wearing pants or underwear.
On those rarer occasions that I am producing more, I can sense it but it's a sensation that is emanating from the base of my dick. In that same state, I can even do an occasional flexing of the pee muscles and a small slow stream will seep out.

As mentioned earlier, I precum a lot, and, same as you, I also "cum buckets" (but it might not be the trade off you think it is). I don't take, or do anything to increase the volume of my cum and precum. The only thing I can attribute it to is that I drink a lot of water everyday.
By greatly increasing your normal intake of water everyday, in time (about 2 weeks) your body begins to become properly hydrated. Yeah, for about two weeks it will seem like you're having to pee off and on all day long. But, then suddenly, even though you're still drinking a lot of water everyday, without realizing it, you go back to peeing like you did before. But now you're drinking the amount of water that the body has been needing for so long. You'll notice that you now have a "natural craving" for water (I loved when that happened to me!).
