To be fair to some of the dudes in here, juggling a phone, a ruler and your dick is really hard to do while maintaining an erection lmao. I think that's one of the reasons tape measures are more popular. Plus, if your dick has a slight curve (like mine does) then tape measures are far easier to use since they can curve with your dick.

I think that if a guy can clearly show they're 8 inches with a valid tape measurement, then that shouldn't be discounted. At least, not just because some guy (who is now banned) mentioned rulers specifically in a post 15 years ago.

It would seem like it would be much harder with a tape. Once a finger,thumb,etc. is holding down a ruler, the rest of it just stays where it is.

It’s no harder to take a pic with a ruler than with a tape or coins or whatever other things people are using.

And the reason you use a ruler is because length is — by definition — a one dimensional measurement. When you measure your height, do you use a soft tape and measure along the curvature of your back/ass/thighs, etc.? Or do you stand and measure in a one dimensional straight line? Same idea with dicks. Best thing curved guys can do to get an honest measurement is straighten it out unfortunately. But tapes will always give exaggerated readings for down curved guys.
