He does seems to have gone a lot of mainstream these days. He used to be the indie guy who dabbles in big productions once in a while, working with rather interesting projects. Now he's working with streaming movies, does brand endorsement, openly talk about his private life in press. I do think part of the mystique is kind of gone.

well he's not really open, check the interview if you didn't already. they also wrote about finding it hard to get anything from him and he called them days after to apologzie and explain himself...
I do think that he is going for a mainstream career now because he is only one working in his family and if he's only gonna do one year per movie at best it needs to pay a lot...

Maybe compared to before it feels that he's a bit more open in talking about his personal life and relationship.
It is funny about the money part though. I know that people in Hollywood have a different lifestyle than the rest of us, but how many millions does it really take to raise a family? I guess with the spotlights they cannot live a normal live, but I would think that a couple of multi million dollar paycheque would be good for a while. But then I am really bad at personal finance myself, so I dunno, haha.

I get what you're saying but for example Eva has not been working for a decade and Ryan mostly avoided movies with big budgets which meant low salary, so I guess that's the reason he is doing these big movies now.
I mean I don't mind that, my two favorite Ryan movies are those made for big public - even tho one flopped at BO (La La Land & The Nice Guys), I just wish he was more active. Doing one movie per year at best is just too lazy.

I did an AI upscale/enhance of the underwear bulge scene from Half Nelson. Every other pic/gif of this shot on the internet has been in very poor quality.
