i already know that all that oversexualization in the gay male space is social programming and engineering like a lot of things in that space. The problem is too many men feel they have to do shit like that to "belong" into the gay male space. That mentality NEEDS to change. I dont think all this isolating and segregating amongst the lgbtq is a good thing as this individual is a prime example. I still think there's more to the story than plain homophobia; the incidents that transpired earlier last week - which were very hurtful to a community of people - likely have something to do with this as well. The person who leaked could also intensely dislike Aidan for whatever happened between them.

Leaking something like this also risks a reputation hit to the leaker. The leaker - I'm sure some people know who he is; all signs point to Miller or someone in his entourage - will now be less trusted to handle information that requires discretion, and the leaker better be sure that no one got any dirt on him. This is something you only do for some very good reasons; with so much gay presence in DC, general homophobia isn't specific enough.

It's part of the story now too (still up, now with over 1,250 comments). He's explicitly framing his consequences as a result of homophobia. I disagree that this should reflect poorly on the gay community and that the gay community as a whole is at fault for anything here. This guy acted on his own with his partner, and will have to face the consequences of his actions, legal, societal etc. That is correct and needs to happen.

Blaming the gay community for this guy’s actions or saying his actions come from a place of being ‘sex positive’ is incorrect. You can be sex positive, even risky, while not being immature or potentially infringing on the privacy and security of others. Those are different issues.


Now, If people are hurling insults at him for being gay (they are) or shaming other gay people because of his actions, that is homophobic and not right. That’s where I’d hope lgbtq organizations steps in. Saying people need to not be homophobic towards him isn’t excusing his actions.
