Tom holland

his break thing came before the show. it started as a break from social media because of fans pestering him, making comments about him and his relationship, stalking his every move. he just ended up extending it to acting as well. i don't think the crowded room was the straw that broke the camel's back. he was on break, did the show, went on break again.
iirc after filming the last spiderman he also said he was going on break for a year because he wanted to be able to have a bit more adventure, but because of his work, the most he could do was play golf. so the break isn't anything new, he says and does it every time he finishes a new project

People keep forgetting that not only they have to portray a character, a rather excruciating mental process, they also have to keep up with the physical aspect (like Spiderman and Nathan Drake has a certain look and need to be physically fit), on top of that is they have to keep up with public image and take unsolicited opinion from critics and social media nobodies.

Tom has been casted to be this eye candy twink for everyone to see since his Spider-Man days. Not finding a good enough role that wasn’t Uncharted but a toll on him.
How does acting or working in movie business affect mental health? So many people working there say the same thing, like so many people want to be in their shoes and they never get the opportunity.

He addressed the bad reviews today. The show has a big difference between the critic rating and the audience rating. So I am curious, to anyone who has watched the show is it better than what the critics have said or is it just Tom's fans who are trying to upholster it's score?
I didn't watch the show yet, but it's easy to see the rating is currently being rigged by both his fans (and his haters, fwiw). See the distribution of score at letterboxd. Most film/shows should have a somewhat bell-shaped curve regardless if it's skewed to the left or to the right, but definitely not a sudden jump at 5 and 1.

edit: "rigged" might be unfair, i should've said that the score might be "frontloaded" by Tom's fans that watched and rated the show faster than average viewers

I'm enjoying the series. I think knowing the overall story kind of ruins the premise of the show though. So if you don't know, definitely don't look it up. I agree with others it can be slow. It was very weird seeing him in the almost forced sex scene, since we've never seen him in something like that before.

As far as him taking a mental break. I mean an average joe working a 9 to 5 probably needs a break, but unfortunately they're not in a position to take time off, particularly if they live in America. World's been especially crazy last 6-8 years, pandemic, politics, hate, inflation, capitalism, religious right, etc... Most of us probably could use some time off.

Some people have mentioned how in the past actors use to work more and not taken time off. He's done 18 films in the last 8 years, plus this TV series. That's a lot. Plus, it's not just making of the movies/tv but the marketing / advertising them as well. Movies also take a lot longer to make now then they use to particularly with some of the more action ones he's done (Spider-Man, Uncharted). I think the media has made a bigger deal out of it then it was. He said he'd already done 9 months of the break thus far. He deserves sometime to enjoy his friends and family and live his life. It's not that big of a deal.

People criticizing Tom right now, yeah I like for you to switch places with him and see how you deal with the pressures of making sure you aced a role in a film.
...and also the pressure of delivering a box office, after the success of Spiderman. People never understand this.

He deserve a break, and a reason to take a break. Everyone is entitled to one, regardless of what your job or profession is. Show business is notorious of drug and alcohol addiction because of pressure and they have to cope with all the demands. We all don't want Tom to fall to that problem, I'd rather have him take a break, come back recharge, make better films and TV and do much more in the long run.

I love Tom and Amanda, and their acting is not a problem in this series, but how boring it feels for me, hopefully the pacing picks up soon.

To be fair, that success was not due to him. “Far from home” was AVENGERS bumped and “No Way Home” was Tobey, Andrew, William, and Molina. So that’s not at all on his back. He’s just not good at anything outside of Spider-boy. He’s hot as HELL though!
