What's for dinner?

I've got three basic recipes..Vegetarian Fiasco; Beef Fiasco; Chicken Fiasco.

I made a big pot of chilli con carne and a whole heap of plain rice. I'll eat that every day 'til it's gone...then the same with pasta bolonnaise....same with chicken curry then vegetable caserole...then beef again etc etc,,,

Same lunch everyday Salmon and salad on dark rye. Same breakfast-oatmeal and fruit. Snack on fruit. Water,

I eat to live- not live to eat.

Just a bowl of soup, I've gained 5 pounds in the last month...grrr

My older brother passed away last night after a short illness, and I have been in a state of reminiscing all day long. He loved old
fashioned Southern breakfasts, anytime of the day or night, and he especially loved garlic/cheese grits. We were talking about it
the other day and he said he wished his doctor would let him have some just one more time.

So, tonight I had bacon, country ham, sunnyside up eggs, garlic/cheese grits, and home made buttermilk biscuits with red-eye gravy. Washed down with some good, strong coffee.

Ummmm, was it good. I just wish he could have been here to enjoy it with me.

Last night was braised short ribs with celery root mashed potatoes.

I'm so sorry, Silver. *hugs*

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I can't even imagine what you are going through. Losing one of my sisters would just be devastating.

Just to comment about the big, country breakfasts that your brother loved. I love grits and love going to the south because grits is always on the breakfast menu. This morning I had spam, another breakfast favorite. I don't care what it's made of or what's in it, I still love it.

Thanks so much. Just receiving your condolences was a huge help.
I really wasn't thinking too clearly when I posted about my breakfast, and forgot about
it. Today, I have had more than a dozen lpsg'rs contact me and I cannot tell you how
much the concern and the love has helped me cope. Again, BBW, thank you.

Hi MsThang (with that name, you've got to be from the South...

I have been bowled over by all the messages of support and I thank all of you. It indeed has been a great help in coping with this loss. One never thinks about it and believes we will just be here forever, I guess....and so we are never ready when it happens. Thanks again..

I too live in NYC and grits are becoming available in more and more restaurants, especially in diners and local places. I probably know why, for when I visit home, I realize there are
more southerners in NYC than in the south these days...

I can remember about 5 years ago there was a sign in a Greek diner (I had been kidding them about not carring grits) and one day there was a sign in the window..."WE NOW CARRY GRIT"...I almost fell over laughing...but went in and placed an order for a "GRIT." They were runny and looked and tasted like cream of wheat (he added surar..ugg!)...so I
went into the kitchen and told the chef that I would be glad to show him how to cook GRIT...with an S... He asked me to come back at a less busy time, which I did...and now
he serves GRITS as they should be.

I love those big ole country breakfasts, and don't get them often enough.

Again, thanks....

Sorry to hear that Silvertriumph :frown1:

Thanks Countryguy....all of you have been so nice.
I am very touched by all the messages that I've received, but I should not have been surprised, because this is such a great place with such great people...
Thanks again..

Tonight's dinner was a Superbowl inspired beef and bean chili over oven fries with cheese. While nothing atypical, it was all fresh and tasted absolutely divine.

I've lost loved ones close to me, I easily sympathize with your predicament. Anytime, sweetie.

HickBoy....sorry I somehow hijacked your thread.
But, aren't the people here great?

Last night's supper (while watching the Super Bowl)

Fried Buttermilk Battered Chicken
Stewed Okra and Tomatoes
Turnip Greens (with hot pepper vinegar and ChowChow)
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
A thick Chicken & Milk Gravy
Corn bread sticks
Coffee

Turnip greens with hot pepper vinegar and chowchow sounds delicious!

Turnip greens...are Gone with the Wind!
But....

I have a little of the home made ChowChow left, and can always put more vinegar in the hot pepper bottle and make more turnip greens...just say when!
