Are Guys More Comfortable Naked In The Locker Room Than They Used To Be?

Just the other day me and a friend went to a pool, don't like going to public pools but it was something to do, and we were in the changing room and got changed and went out. We went back in to shower and did it nude and some people thought it was odd. It wasn't a mixed gender shower. It was just guys and some guy was trying to cover up his sons face when he was in there. I think he has seen a dick before lol. I was just suprised. We all have dicks. Get over it. At least another dad was there and just told me he and his son didn't do it cause he didn't have the courage to do that in front of people but still couldn't understand why that guy freaked. And his son was a few years younger. People are just nuts when it comes to that stuff. Shelter someone so much that they get afraid of their own dicks. I bet money that in 10 years sex therapist are going to be in high demand. This is why I prefer private places or a nudist camp. It's insane.

Quite frankly, it's prudes like that who should be banned from using public showers, until they get they get a grip. Ridiculous that some puritan nutter should make other people, who are using a shower as intended, uncomfortable.

A few years ago I was at a waterpark and wearing a Speedo. A father of a child told me "Why don't you put some clothes on?" I told him to get a life.

Whenever a guy makes a comment about another guy being naked, shirtless, wearing a speedo, etc., take a look at the bodies of the two guys. Usually the guy making the comment is in noticeably worse physical shape than the guy he's talking about. I've noticed the same with women about each other.

Someone pointed this out to me years ago and it seems to occur rather more than random chance would allow.

This suggests to me there's a bit of envy involved.

To each his own I suppose. I have boys and can't imagine covering their eyes in that situation. They are either too young to care, or old enough to have context. Same thing if a nude woman wondered into the shower room.

Saw pretty much the same thing this weekend at my gym. It has a couple of big pools that are heavily used by families on the weekends. I think I have seen this guy do this with his son before, but they came into the showers wearing their suits. It is pretty much full of guys finishing working out and another dad & son from the pool. Trunk dad tells his son to face the wall and when he starts turning around the dad stands behind him so they are now sharing a shower. I guess the son started to take his suit off and the dad forcefully told him "NO. You don't take that off. You leave it on to shower." I finished and was back at my locker when they came out to go to theirs. They dried off at their locker and then the dad lead the son to the bathroom stalls to change clothes. Son in one, dad in the other.

I had to shake my head at the lengths this dad went to.

My dad would have forced me to take them off and probably leave me out to let it hang in front of some people lol

At the pool last night there were three guys early 20s at the pool. They get into the change room and shower in their shorts. Then all go in to separate bathroom stalls and come out in their underwear and continue dressing. Then another two guys late teens come to get changed and strip down to their underwear and then set their shorts up on the bench and turn away from each other and shove their underwear down super fast and grab their shorts in a rush to get them on before they are naked for more than three seconds...heaven forbid. Some people are odd.

I respect more the latter two. They were unnecessarily hyper to not be naked, but they were willing to be so for the moment actually required. I had a college roommate like that. He always turned away and moved quickly but he woukd change in front of me / with me. My first roommate would not ever take his undies off. My roommates that played sports stripped off casually, as did I.

Definitely agree. At least they had the balls to do it...they'll work up to being "normal". Lol. Not the other ones.

Any given AM at my gym dozens of guys over four hours will strip naked out of sweaty gym gear or swim suits and walk naked or towel covered to showers, get clean, dry off and then get dressed. I've been in gym where hundreds would pass through the showers in an average AM.

Some will be naked longer than others but very few will act like a crazy person scared of light rays reaching his dick. And most of those guys know they have the hang up. That's fine.

I've ocassionally seen the dick-phobia dudes typically in a venue that is new to all involved -- like a locker room at a team building retreat venue -- act like they are the normal. They learn OMG guys get naked in these places and are shocked!

News flash: Tens of Millions of men --- ranging from the professional athlete paid millions to your average joe who pumps iron or plods in some calorie burning pursuit -- strip their undies off in a locker room in view of other men on at least an ocassional basis to shower and/or change. And they rightly think very little of it.

Yesterday at Haulover nude beach a nicely built black man stripped off all the layers he was wearing except the black compression shorts. Then he wrapped a towel around himself to do the towel dance and don his board shorts. This happened on a nude beach with about a dozen other guys in close proximity. No, I am not kidding.

Growing up I was mostly modest, but as I get older (now 47) I seem to get more comfortable being nude in the open in the locker room. It's not so much about showing off (as I have nothing really to show) but being shameless and more comfortable with my own body. Being modest takes energy that I don't have!

I posted this on a another thread but thought it'd also relevant here:

Witnessed varying levels of modesty at the gym this week where I tailored my behavior to the crowd. One day there were a lot of guys that seemed to be modest - one (younger) guy whom I've seen not be modest before when the place was less crowded walked out of his shower stall with his underwear on. My locker was right next to his, so I unfortunately followed his lead and just put on my underwear (I can't towel dance to save my life) while I turned the other way. In hindsight I wish I was more confident. I think I feel more vulnerable if I'm the only one exposed, when I really shouldn't give a fuck.

Then today there were a couple guys who just dropped trou, dried off openly, walked freely around, and chatted with each other. I did the same and it felt more liberating and much easier than trying to be modest. I was probably the smallest of the group but it didn't bother me. I think I've come a long way and learned that as I get older I have fewer body-issues and less fucks to give!

Observation in the lockerroom yesterday - there were 5 of us there, 3 in shower stalls and 2 waiting to get in. I was one of the 3 showering and the first to get out. As I stepped out semi-dry and exposed, one of the waiting 2 was right outside my shower door ready to jump in wearing his underwear and carrying a towel. When another guy came out (towel around waist), the other waiting guy walked in with his towel. (There are hooks just outside the stall.) I was blow drying my hair and saw the guy that had just come out doing the towel dance. Then I went to my locker to change. The guy who just put on his pants was behind me. Being that I got the sense everyone was modest, I just dropped my towel but quickly put on my underwear with my back facing him. Another guy came out of his shower wearing his underwear, and the guy that took my stall did the towel dance while talking to his other modest friend shortly before I left. Everyone seemed like nice guys, and I don’t want to be judgy, but the energy in the locker room felt uptight to me. All of them seemed young so maybe it is a generational thing.

Not sure about other parts of the world, but here in the US people seem more modest than ever. Back in high school no one even used the showers. In fact, the school put storage in them so you couldn't use them. I'm guessing the lawyers told them that having smelly kids was less of a liability than having someone with a phone snap some pics. There was a second shower by the pool that worked, but only the swim team used that one, not regular PE class.

I rarely use the gym locker room because I am ususally going straight home and it is a short ride and easier to not carry clean clothes, a towel and grooming supplies. I did happen to use it yesterday and the only person I saw shaving was doing it nude.
