Are Guys More Comfortable Naked In The Locker Room Than They Used To Be?

I may have said this before but... I recently started going to a different gym, and find that there is ten times the openness and relaxed attitude toward nudity in the locker room, sauna, showers and wet areas. It just seems like the vibe is different and guys are there unconcerned when their dick is out.
What gym did you change to?

I find it strange how when 2 or more guys friends are changing they will avoid being nude in front of each other. I saw two guys doing the towel dance, right in front of each other and talking the entire time. LOL. Even at the urinals, one guy will go in a stall and pee and the other will use the urinal, while still talking to each other. Huh, I always assumed that guy friends would be comfortable with each other, I think alot of straight guys have nudity shaming and dick insecurities. Odd huh?

Ive encountered quite a few circumstances where guys who would never be caught showering in like a PE class, would be totally ok showering somewhere with guys they don't know.
I have had teammates who resisted the showers in our home locker room, but would eagerly go shower at an away tournament with a team they didn't know anyone on.

I feel a bit the same : no prob at all being naked with strangers, brother or my rugby teammates. But felt weird when with friends.

The weirdness fades away with time fortunately.
the fear may be of being judged by friends.

When you're naked with people you know, it makes you vulnerable. Being vulnerable to their friends changes the relationship dynamics. We were so used to it that it was no big deal. I guess it may have helped us be closer friends than the newer generation.

Being naked only makes you vulnerable if you let it - it can also be empowering to be nude. If you go to a place where people are comfortable naked, a Korean spa, a nude beach or a naturist club you should learn to be comfortable naked with naked people so when you go back to the gym showers you don't even think twice about stripping off around everyone else.

We're discussing younger people. They didn't grow up around it. Most of these people can't even find their ass with both hands. You are a naturist. Naturally you'd have no problem with it. I've been around nude guys my whole life. I have no issue with it.

I have no problem with it because I took a decision that i wanted to deal with it - until then I wouldn't go to a gym/pool far less go and towel dance -the younger people of today can to he same (it's more difficult as there are fewer places to go naked and maybe less essential as there are fewer places with open showers) but it's still possible and a straightforward way of getting over the fear of geting naked.

I read on another board when nudity was accepted essentially everywhere at the YMCA that some men would wrestle nude to intimidate their opponents.
While not quite nude I also read of a beach volleyball team that competes in speedos instead of board shorts because the think it intimidates the other team.

I agree. Once while cleaning up after a strictly social nudist event the doors dividing us clean-up crew (still nude) from the front room (just re-opened for regular business) accidentally opened. Mind you, this is in a gay bar catering strictly to men. The front room had a half dozen 20-somethings in it. They saw us middle aged guys in the buff and were scandalized. Silly us, we thought it was our middle aged bodies that freaked them out. Nope, it was the whole concept of socializing in the buff. We, in turn, responded with, "Gay men who don't want to take their clothes off. What is the world coming to?"

You know, there are sites all over the net with pictures of young men taken by hidden cameras in locker rooms. It happened to a friend's son. It may be what is scaring them.

That seems reasonable but aren't they the same people who're sending nude selfies to each other?

I can totally see that working!
I am sort of the opposite.
While I would expect having to wrestle a nude opponent would be intimidating, I don't quite understand why or how volleyball opponents in speedos would be.

What about all the younger ones body shaming older guys? When you get older, if you are one of the less than 1%, you'll be able to keep a hot body. If you are like the average guy, life and time will beat the hell out of you.
