Colton underwood- american football player

The whole virgin things it's not him that told the production, but the production that created a storyline. They often make up stuff like that. In most of his interviews he said he never had a girlfriend.
He said it first on the Bachelorette where he started that good boy thing when he told the Bachelorette, Becka, that he was a virgin. She famously walked right out, hahaha. She also got shit for doing that but looks like she was reading those red flags. Production can only use the shots they are given. He brought it up as a big reveal they went with it, he went along for the ride as you pointed out. Colton is full of it.

2:16 mark, says he's a virgin, only dated one girl, hasn't been on dates.

Exactly. Everybody who is into reality tv know that the two biggest escape routes a cast member can take to avoid accountability and backlash is
1.Blame editing
2.Blame production

Production can only use what you give them. He’s played the “straight-Virgin-looking-for-the-right-one” card many times from interviews to his book to podcasts to even meeting fans in person. So him blaming producers is again, another lie

Damn...y'all are harsh.
Honestly nobody told Colton to live out his messy coming out story in the public eye, embarrassing multiple women on national television and proceeding to be outed as a psycho stalker/creep. If he wasn't so fame hungry nobody would care and he could get fucked in peace lol

This is what I was getting to. Chasing clout, money and public validation- that is the biggest reason he’s been so willing to manipulate, lie and construct and still continue to do so. Not internalized homophobia, confusions and/or Bachelor producers. He used supposed virginity, “straightness” and women to get him that validation and clout before. Now, he’s trying to use guys, “coming out” and a “gay” identity to get him those things now. This is why he comes off so distasteful.

Nothing about Colton’s story or personality is unique or particularly interesting (even the stalking shit). His messiness is the only thing here.

Didnt he came out with a book last year saying he was straight lol
Republicans and hypocrisy go hand in hand these days. Yeah, less than 12 months ago he was peddling a straight, conservative, judgmental (if you've watch him on the shows), Christian personal. Lashed out when people (correctly) questioned his nonexistent heterosexuality.

Several TV Host or journalists from Good Morning America to Wendy Williams actually didn't believe a single words on the whole virgin story. Wendy Williams even said he would have on Bachelor season then will have another reality show where they would follow him and his "girlfriend" and he'll be back as the first gay bachelor. Back in the day, many people were offended by her words and called her homophobic. Looks like she was right all along.
this right there. say what u want about WW bit she's right about alot of things ha.

just everything about him makes me yawn. hes so predictable. not interesting at all. and yes, we are harsh, cause of the damn things he does.

It doesn’t really matter if it was the producers’ idea to push the “virgin” thing. He was beyond grown when he signed up to the show and went along for the ride. Just like a lot of these entertainment people, he was perfectly fine with PR and producers building a persona around him and falsifying/manipulating his image so long as it meant that they gave him opportunities and money. It may not have been his idea to use “straight’ virgin” as a marketing gimmick for his season. But he was very aware that he was playing into the naive, inexperienced thing. While after his season of The Bachelor aired he played up the “straight’ virgin who’s a hopeless romantic looking for hetero commitment” thing in interviews and to sell a book.

He did what he did. He played the game. He hustled. And he was possibly doing so while dealing with insecurities, internalized phobias and uncertainties about his sexuality and where he is in the gender, romantic, sexual, emotional, relationship commitment spectrum. I don’t really resent him for all of that. That’s just what clout-chasers do, “reality” stars do, social media “stars” do. The problem is he doesn’t like to truly own up to anything and is still obsessed with controlling narrative now that he’s “out”. While considering that he swiftly started using his “coming out” and his new “gay” identity to re-formulate his brand, it all just makes him come off like a narcissistic con artist.

But I guess without all this drama very few people would care about him, because once again, without the drama there’s nothing interesting there.

I'm just crossing every finger I have that the next big revelation to drop will either be secret career moonlighting as a hooker when he was working for the NFL or a spurned drag queen ex who can throw some Miss Coco Peru-worthy angry rants when interviewed on TV.

I guess the show is going to try being a variation of ‘Queer Eye’, but the presented premise is old-fashioned and borderline offensive. There is no proper way to be “gay”. While the tone is bound to be shallow and non-confrontational and feature a lot of PR clean-up, which seems manipulative after all the shit Colton’s gotten into over the past year. Also, we already know this dude's been on Grindr, to bathhouses, comes off like a stereotypical white InstaGay and was talking about how he should have “come out” when he saw Michael Sam do it (which was way back in 2013). So, the premise is also faulty. But I guess both him and Gus are mostly focused on trying to stay relevant and getting easy checks. More power to them, I guess. I’m officially moving on.

Coming back to the thread after a while, I'm somewhat heartened that his plot back to relevance seems not to be going well. He's failing to attract attention even through notoriety (by comparison, a small social media influencer who partied through the pandemic is still generating pages of indignant rants months after the fact).

Coming to the conclusion that the kind of people who are known for nothing except being gay are truly some of the vilest things in our community. Isn't it far better to be known for being a comedian, an athlete, a singer, a model rather than for being gay? Isn't it better to have something, anything to offer? Both Colton and Gus are these types of reasonably good-looking but ultimately brain-dyingly boring, bland guys who's got nothing except their sexuality which was born to them. Good riddance and let's see these untalented narcissists ride off to irrelevance (literally).

I mean you're not entirely wrong but Gus is an Olympic athlete lol

Gusbis not known for being gay. Him being an Olympian is his main claim to fame. But I mostly agree with the rest.

True, but him going the reality TV route to me feels like he believes he cannot chase more fame without putting his sexuality front and center? Of course I may be a bit too quick to judge, we can reserve judgement until their work is released, just very distasteful for me to see him participating in this circus which has nothing to do with his own self except being a gay famous someone.

Gus deserves some credit for proving that gay/queer/whatever males can compete at the highest levels of physical competition (not that that should need proving). But the reality TV shows, constant public appearances and constant thirst trapping does make Gus come off like a clout-chaser. And I don’t see how any respectable out “gay” would be okay with participating in such a concept and working with someone who has so much dirty laundry. Or at least a respectable “gay” who isn’t chasing clout and desperately trying to stay in the public eye.

Colton would have been better off not immediately trying to monetize “gayness” and use his “coming out” arc for clout and opportunities. He also would have been better off keeping it entirely real instead of continuing to build narrative. But if you’re a charmless, witness dude who’s been known for manipulating for years and all you have is being decent looking and a “gay” arc... His way of handling his “coming out” is even more problematic than his years presenting himself as a “straight” virgin for clout and to have women chase after him and his stalking/tracking his ex. His PR team really f-ed up.
