Colton underwood- american football player

I'd say Gus more than earned his fame, handled his coming out exceedingly well, and continues to be a good advocate for the community (along with other causes like rescuing stray animals). He's earned some benefit of the doubt from me. Though I do hope he's primarily participating for the chance to hit that rather than because he thinks Underwood can actually be rehabilitated into someone worthwhile.

Gus deserves some credit for proving that gay/queer/whatever males can compete at the highest levels of physical competition (not that that should need proving). But the reality TV shows, constant public appearances and constant thirst trapping does make Gus come off like a clout-chaser. And I don’t see how any respectable out “gay” would be okay with participating in such a concept and working with someone who has so much dirty laundry. Or at least a respectable “gay” who isn’t chasing clout and desperately trying to stay in the public eye.

Colton would have been better off not immediately trying to monetize “gayness” and use his “coming out” arc for clout and opportunities. He also would have been better off keeping it entirely real instead of continuing to build narrative. But if you’re a charmless, witness dude who’s been known for manipulating for years and all you have is being decent looking and a “gay” arc... His way of handling his “coming out” is even more problematic than his years presenting himself as a “straight” virgin for clout and to have women chase after him and his stalking/tracking his ex. His PR team really f-ed up.
Ah you make a great point. If he has two brain cells to rub together he'd not be so quick and transparent in all the manipulative strategies, going from the virgin straight boy to a newly out & curious but also very experienced and tragically scammed/oppressed bland gay boy. The only thing we know for true is he's trying to chase fame and this is the latest way to do it; wouldn't be surprised if down the road he repents being gay and go on the Milo ex-gay route if he's desperate (I certainly hope not).

I agree Gus has engendered some goodwill and can be afforded the benefit of the doubt, and most people here only finds it distasteful that he's associated himself with such a exploitative project. We surely can wait and see how he approaches the whole thing, though at this point (with Colton starring) it's really hard to imagine how it can be any more thoughtful than what we hear.

He could probably hit that without doing that show.

The Milo thing is something else. That person has clearly always been filled with so much hate, resentment, internalized phobia and a willingness to do anything to “troll” Liberals. I doubt he was ever really married to that dude. He just thought it’d be a “great story”. He’s never even shown his supposed “black husband”. His whole life is a scam. The media should have never given him a platform and should have never bitten on his “semi fem ‘gay’ who’s also a Conservative” gimmick. That dude probably isn’t even Conservative. He’s just a hateful queer headcase constantly searching for attention and money instead of confronting his issues.

Colton has recently talked about wanting to get married to a guy and wanting to have kids with a guy. It is incredibly weird that just a year ago he put out a book defending his “straightness” and hyping up how much he wants hetero commitment. And even a few months ago he was trying to convince people he was oh so naive and never had any same-sex experiences and didn’t know what was going on with his sexuality. Now, he’s been blackmailed and been to bathhouses and should have “come out” when Michael Sam did.

He is the type of dude who gets everything he can out of “queers” and the “gay lifestyle”, then experiences some fluidity and ends up marrying a chick by the time he’s in his 40s. People are strange and have their own motivations, struggles and journeys. But this is partly why I don’t hype identities and “coming out” like I used to. I focus more on the individuality of sexuality, everyone having their own dimensions and struggles and motivations, and the gender, romantic, sexual, affection, emotional investment, commitment. Just support people being honest and living the life they want to live, and being with/committing to who they want to be with/commit to. Because there’s too much different shit going on with different people and too much using “queerness” for clout and opportunities.

Totally agree on your assessment man, and personally I certainly don't mean to suggest what Colt was/is doing is on the level of Milo's vileness. Colton is just an semi-relevant fame whore chasing drama like so many we have in this world today.

And on a higher level, it's great we can talk about real issues around inclusivity and media portrayal candidly as we are long from the old days when anyone willing to take up the gay mantle is a cause for celebration. We certainly have no grudges with these celebos on a personal level; their journeys are their own and their life choices are their business. It's the manufactured public persona & how that affects/exploits the community vis a vis their narcissistic career advancement moves that are worth parsing. Anyways, I already took up too much spaces so I'll go back to appreciating this mindless blob of reasonably good looking boy with a great bod.

I do think it’s time to let the dude breathe. The people who were initially defending this guy have pretty much been on hush mode. Colton’s messiness, manipulation and fame whoring ways have mostly been exposed (mostly by his own fraudulent, contradictory and/or problematic accounts). And we’ve broken it all down. There really is no point in continuing to kick him. Let folks lust after him in peace. Hopefully, his messy and fraudulent days are behind him, he has some inner peace and his PR won’t continue tripping up.

Oh God! The production already knew Colton was gay that even Billy Eichner couldn't resist to make a joke about it. It's television. Leave the guy alone and be happy.

This is what I don’t like. Even when folks are ready to move on, people keep trying to come up with bullshit reasons to completely excuse all his nonsense and make other people villains.

It doesn't matter what the production did or did not know. Even if you remove him knowing he was homosexual and "gay" in every way yet still signing up to star in a hetero-normal reality show, there's still a ton of other messiness. He was the one almost offended by and dismissive towards the “gay” rumors. He was the one who put out a book just last year promoting his non-gayness and his journey to hetero love and commitment. (All while apparently trolling Grindr and hitting up bathhouses). He was the one who stalked his ex girlfriend, was verbally abusive and put a tracking device in her car. He didn’t have to do any of that. Most of that stuff was purely driven by fame hunger, ego and narcissism. He was the one trying to convince people that he did some soul searching and wanted to be himself and wanted to authentically be with someone of his sex, just to claim a couple of months later that the “coming out” was trigger by blackmail. He was the one who signed a new TV and book deal before publicly “coming out” just to make sure attaching to “gay” would guarantee a profit and some more spotlight opportunities.

Everyone is different. Everyone has different sexualities, dimensions, circumstances, struggles and journeys. And so many “queers” make mistakes and stumble along the way. But the dude has been needlessly messy and manipulative and privileged and is still looking to profit and chase clout. There is no problem with calling all of that out. So, miss me with the dismissive “it was just a show” bs. It is time to move on from it though.

I still don't understand how his life has affected your life in any way. And people will keep swallowing this shit with no reason and also wanting to watch him suck cock and getting fucked.
*sigh* Humanity never changes.

Yeah, I’m not interested in watching him get fucked/suck dick. He’s a bit too “random bland white dude in porn” looking for me to thirst after. Nor do I wish him any real ill-will. To me, he’s just the catalyst to a larger societal conversation and an example of some things. If the only perspective you have is: “yes, but I still want to see him naked” that’s fine. And do I think it’s time to move on and let him be, yes. But don’t try to dismiss legit examinations and criticism because of your thirst or because you just don’t want to partake in those types of complicated and nuanced convo’s. You could have just said you think he’s hot and kept eating your popcorn.

Is this what we are during pride month. The guy is a former pro football player, his family is known to be conservative and probably very anti LGBT but we decide to throw stones to the fact he refused to appear gay and coming out earlier and hidden that fact in TV.

The guy is trash and has done fucked up things, and a lot of them. But hiding his sexuality is not the thing you should take offense to. We don't know how his growing up was... Not everyone has the privilege to have an opening entourage and the fact that people from the community still are trashing him for that...

Just remember that some of you must have been treated like he's been treated now and the target of all that is not all the other stuff he did but for keeping in private that he likes men and not women. Oh sorry the way people refer to that is "he lied". The ridiculous part is that we are here wasting energy on someone who doesn't even know we are on here arguing. And for the sexual part is funny that you, Johnjohnston, said that I'm the only one interested in watching him having sex when we all are here posting and watching videos or pictures or men having sex. Isn't it ironic? Oh! I forgot that hipocrisy is a natural human trait and it exists in every social, cultural, religious and political group. Community? Yeeaaaah! Pride? Yeeaaah! Happy Pride month.

yeah yeah yeah here comes the bullshit guilt trip. Burn the cape

First off, if you’re going to cape for someone get your facts straight. NOBODY is bashing him for being gay OR keeping his supposedly “gay life private” so get it right hun. The backlash he received is his manipulative ways so jump off his dick and stop riding it hard.

The backlash is from his disingenuous way of coming out. This dude has known he was gay from childhood and went onto a HETEROSEXUAL TV SHOW (very private huh?) to portray a whole persona of an innocent virgin Christian boy who has been saving himself for the “right woman”. And during that process vilified homosexuality, supported republicans and damaging conservative views and talking points on homosexuality treating it like an illness, and at the same time PROFITED from those vilifying views of homosexuality MEANWHILE he was supposedly getting his dick sucked and ass pounded while cruising from gay bath house to bath house and little miss Colton wasn’t so chaste and pure after all. Then out of no where he shows up and expects us to believe magically found the light and decided to come out gay ONLY for us to find out one week later that he got BLACKMAILED into coming out because his regular life was about to be exposed. Had he not been blackmailed he would still been “straight” and continued to push his views and marry him a beard while secretly being on Grindr with a no picture profile talking about “I don’t send face pics I’m discreet”. And to add to injury, in true Colton manner, he’s profiting off his coming out with magazine covers and a Netflix show.

... So miss me with the bullshit. People have 100% right to call him out. Go cape for someone else, Colton is dead course.
