Different approaches I guess. Man of Steel went for a sleek "alien" look for Supes, this seems more like a grounded take. Also it makes for easier movement. I've spoke to some people about the hair and honestly most of them agree it looks more jewish than zoomer. Makes sense, considering David himself is jewish and the character has a lot of jewish roots.
