Painting by Hippolyte Flandrin.
thanks for posting this painting by my countryman Kristian Zahrtmann (1843-1917). His home was just about 1 km from where I live today. I have never seen this painting 'Adam in Paradise' from 1914, since it is at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, but one day I will visit that museum (it is a 6 hour ride with high-speed train). Zahrtmann also painted a different version of the painting where he included a snake. That painting is in a private collection, so I have not seen that either. I have also included a photograph of Zahrtmann and the model for Adam in Zahrtmann's studio.
studying Russian language in high-school included a studio tour to Leningrad, where I remember seing the golden statues at Peterhof Palace. This one is 'Samson, razdirajusjtjij past lvu' (Самсон, раздирающий пасть льву) i.e. 'Samson, tearing the lion to pieces' by Mikhail Kozlovskij, originally from 1800-02, but replaced by a copy in 1947
